Let's talk about writers writing about writers!

It's almost time for this years Key West Literary Seminar:  "WRITERS ON WRITERS."  This means it is also time for our annual Book Bites Book Club discussion of the authors appearing at the seminar.  The KWLS pr grams are available at the library and they contain enough biographical information, essays and poems to generate a lively discussion.  There is also a display in the library full of books by many of the authors appearing at one or both of the sessions.  So stop by and pick up a pr gram or a book and come to BOOK BITES on Thursday January 10th at 4:30 at the KW Library.

  1. Hi Kristina,

I hope I'm not out of line, but I'd like to let you know about a book I self-published in November. I'm a permanent resident of Islamorada and am reaching out to my community for support.

“Confessions of a Catholic School Dropout" is my flippant tale about growing up in a strict, Irish Catholic home. Mustached nuns, botched Confessions, the sexual escapades of priests and intoxicated Irish Catholic Godparents are just a few of the things at which I irreverently poke fun in my first book.

You don't have to be Catholic to "get" any part of this book. It's earned four five-star ratings on Amazon since December 2012.

Thanks in advance for your consideration,
    Patti Lavell

My gender was a great disappointment to my family and I grew up knowing my lack of male parts killed my Godfather Patrick and took a good man from this world. Pretending to be a boy and struggling to make sense of Catholic Sacraments that were beaten into my head as well as my backside, I learned early in life that laughter is like a good Irish Whiskey; it can make us warm inside when the world around us is cold and harsh.

This must-read reminds us that going to Church doesn't make us good Christians any more than floating in the ocean makes us yachts. You don't have to be Catholic to "get" any part of this book. It's earned four five-star ratings on Amazon since December 2012.
